On a typical Saturday, I never get more than a couple of miles away from my house. It’s hard to do stuff with a one-year-old, and there’s a lot to do just staying at home - especially with my in-laws living in the neighborhood and having a little lake and pool in their backyard. I wish that meant that my Saturdays are relaxing, but I really make them count. I took Trea baby for a four-mile run yesterday in the jogging stroller. And then once that is over, it’s just a full day of doing stuff with kids and chasing them around and cooking dinner and playing yard games and stuff. It’s fun, and really nice that we don’t have to go out and spend money to have a fun day.

I wear one of those WHOOP fitness bands, and that measures your physical activity. I was top 50 in Indiana yesterday in “strain”, which is what they call your physical exertion. So by the end of the day I’m worn out and ready to just lie down and stare at the ceiling. Alcohol also comes into the picture at this point. So I sleep as much as possible after that. And today, all of the kids slept until 8:30am, a new record. Incredible stuff. But now it’s 9 and I only have like 20 minutes to get all this stuff done before church. And I just wasted a couple of minutes telling you this, which I didn’t need to do.

But people tell me all the time they appreciate the writing I do about my life. I get that with Adam Levitan, I’ve always liked listening to his podcasts when he just talks about normal stuff. People appreciate authenticity.

Pitcher Review

MLB Daily Notes - July 7th (2)
MLB Daily Notes - July 7th (3)
  • Yariel Rodriguez made me look good as my streamer of the day pick. 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 6 K, 2 BB. That was against the Mariners. He did not look great in the underlying stuff (9.8% SwStr%, 40.2% Strike%), so I wouldn’t want to start him against any decent lineups for now.

  • Tyler Anderson put up one of those random 20+ whiff starts which he’ll do from time to time. He has 22 and a 22.4% SwStr%. Very strange pitcher.

MLB Daily Notes - July 7th (4)
  • Gerrit Cole got Rafael Devers’d again, but the velo keeps improving - so we should get our normal Cole back soon.

Hitter Review

Only time for one hitter review, and that is, of course, Ben Rice. He homered THRICE yesterday (four barrels!), and now has done this in his big league career:

60 PA, .294/.383/.588, .972 OPS, 4 HR, 18.6% Brl%, 15% K%, 13% BB%, 81% Cont%, .463 xwOBA

An incredible beginning to his career. You should always be wildly suspicious of guys that come on the scene like this, but the early marks are really good. You don’t often see an 81% Contact% and a 30% GB% from a rookie while they’re still barreling the ball. That’s what Rice has done. He also has catcher eligibility and, most importantly, is leading off for the Yankees now, so he’s pretty close to a must-add guy just to see what we have here.

Sorry about the short notes; Sundays are tough. We’ll be better tomorrow!
