Is Chrome password manager good enough? ›

While better than having no password manager, Google Password Manager's security leaves much to be desired. They have unclear security standards and the overall security of your passwords is tied to your account and device security far too closely.

How to use 1Password for Chrome. 1Password for Chrome is the easiest way to access your passwords while online. It allows you to log in to websites, set strong passwords for new accounts, and find anything stored in your vaults – all without leaving your browser.

However, the Google Chrome password manager is limited. It doesn't have features like password sharing, two-factor authentication, or secure notes. 1Password, on the other hand, is a dedicated password manager with robust security and better functionality than Chrome's password manager.

Chrome password manager has features like a password generator, password checkup, and password autofill, but it is only suitable for people who use Chrome as their primary browser.

You can transfer your passwords from Chrome into 1Password on 1Password.com. 1Password can import your passwords from Chrome. When you import from Chrome: Your Chrome passwords will be converted into 1Password Login items.

Chrome. First, make sure 1Password is turned on in Chrome. Click the Chrome menu in the toolbar and choose Extensions > Manage Extensions. Then click to turn on 1Password.

Ensure you are syncing your passwords. Open Chrome app on your phone and ensure you are signed into your Google account. Goto settings>sync. Ensure passwords is toggled on.

Despite its many features, the Google Password Manager has various drawbacks that can't be avoided. It's not nearly as secure as other password managers since it doesn't use zero-knowledge encryption. With this type of security, data is encrypted and decrypted at the device level, not on the server.

There are types of malware that are capable of harvesting passwords from your device. They know exactly where browsers store their passwords and the encryption key, so they can steal and send the credentials to the attacker. Password managers are separate to the browser so they're not at risk in the same way.
